John
“I was an undercover cop facing 24 years in prison, alone in an 8 by 6 foot solitary confinement cell, when I felt a presence come over me like warm syrup and a voice said, 'This is the Holy Spirit.'”

Before you watch
This testimony contains no graphic abuse or addiction content but does carry sustained, heavy legal and spiritual pressure — five years of a man holding a divine promise against mounting evidence it would not come true. What makes it worth watching is not the dramatic ending but the documented, real-time faith John built while the outcome was still unknown.
What this story teaches
People who have built their identity entirely on worldly achievement often need everything stripped away before they can hear God — not because God is cruel, but because the noise of success drowns out everything else.
How God moved
God pursued John not through a preacher or a program but through isolation — stripping away every false source of identity until only the two of them remained. He spoke in radio lyrics, in a verse at 3:33 a.m., through a woman who didn't know the amount needed. He was not distant or silent — he was specific, timed, and present in the details of a man's worst days.
What Jesus showed him
John had built his entire identity on worldly power — money, status, authority, the life of the party — and believed that having everything the world offered was the same as having joy and peace. In solitary confinement, God laid out before him all the sin, pride, and arrogance he had accumulated, and he saw it for what it was.
The words don't exist. That's how amazing, that's how fulfilling, that's how joyful, that's how peaceful, that's how hopeful, that's how assuring, that's how life he is — the words I need to explain who Jesus is don't exist.
Go Deeper
If you're watching this, I want to ask you — why? God is in absolute control of everything and he moved within you to see this message. What are you going through that you need to hear? As real as God has been and is to me, he wants to be to you. God is real and a relationship with him through Christ is real — it's more real than anything you will ever experience again. God created you to be in a relationship with him — that's why you were created, that's your purpose in life. There is this void in our life that we try to fill with money, sex, drugs, fame, fortune, followers — but nothing works. We are on an endless hamster wheel of nothingness. Nothing fills, nothing satisfies, because the only thing that satisfies is God himself. You can have it right now. All you have to do is repent — change your thinking — come to the end of yourself and say God you are real and I am a sinner and I need a saving. Jesus please save me. Holy Spirit please come into my life.

What you can take from this
This week, identify one area of your life where you are trusting in your own resources, reputation, or reasoning instead of God's word — and consciously choose to act on what God said rather than what the evidence says.
The spiritual warfare the doubt was so heavy in October 2014 — my lawyer sitting across from me with a piece of paper and a stack of evidence, judges saying if you're found guilty I'm sending you to prison. My own thoughts, my own experience, my own knowledge brought about paralyzing fear of prison.
The enemy used John's lawyer to suggest that the plea deal might itself be God's mercy — 'How do you know God didn't give you that promise to get you to this point to have mercy on you by way of this plea deal?' — attempting to reframe surrender as faithfulness.
I had everything this world said you need to have in order to have joy and peace — money, power, respect, authority. The world's definition of identity was so complete that it took 17 days in solitary confinement before I wholeheartedly called out to God.
I literally just said God I need help. That's all I said. I need help.
From the moment I woke up to the moment I went to bed from cover to cover I'm just reading the Bible and it wasn't just reading it — this thing was alive and it was speaking to me.
I'm out of jail, I'm in the word, I'm going to church, I'm in these Bible studies.
She had heard my testimony that I had shared when I was baptized.
A month after everything gets dropped I get married to the girl who stuck with me the whole time. We have two babies, a 4-year-old, a 2-year-old, one on the way.
Psalms 23:1
Words came out of John's mouth spontaneously as he walked the courthouse corridor — he didn't know Psalm 23 but spoke it anyway.
2 Corinthians 5:17
John read 'if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation' and recognized it described exactly what had happened to him in jail.
Proverbs 29:25
God spoke this verse to John three times in one day — through a phone notification, an audible waking at 3:33 a.m., and a Bible study speaker — confirming he should not take the plea deal.
Numbers 23:19
John quoted 'God is not man that he should lie' as his anchor when doubting whether to take the plea deal.
Matthew 19:26
John quoted 'with man this is impossible but with God all things are possible' to describe preaching joy while facing 20 years in prison.
John was stripped of everything, imprisoned, and preserved by God who had a larger purpose — emerging to a position of influence he never sought.
John lived in worldly excess, hit rock bottom, came to himself, and returned to the God he had known only in his head.
John explicitly 'threw out a fleece' asking God to confirm the $117,000 gift through specific signs — Bible verse, song lyrics, license plates.
John faced certain legal destruction, trusted God's word over human counsel, and was supernaturally delivered when all charges were dropped.
John's Christian Walk
Worldly, self-sufficient man who had everything — money, power, status — and lost it all → man who discovered God is real, active, and communicates personally, and now leads a church he never applied for.
All charges dropped by the state's attorney. Married the woman who stood by him through the entire ordeal. Has two children with a third on the way. Became lead pastor of a church. YouTube ministry grew with subscribers. Went from foreclosed home, frozen bank account, and seized vehicles to a restored family life and active ministry.
I was born again — my old life is dead. This new life, this Holy Spirit coming in and giving me a new heart, that's what happened.
The drugs, the alcohol, the sin, the pride, the arrogance. All the women I had betrayed and lied to and cheated on. God delivered me physically, spiritually, emotionally, mentally. I was redeemed.
After conversion, John remained under federal indictment facing 24+ years in prison for five years. His two partners were already serving 12 and 15 year sentences. He faced paralyzing spiritual warfare, doubt, and fear throughout the trial process while simultaneously preaching and pastoring — unable to show his face publicly due to court orders.
There's nothing that we can do on our own to get back right with him.
Lead pastor of Families of Faith church. Started preaching in December 2014 while still facing trial. Built a YouTube ministry documenting God's activity in his life. Now pastors full-time — a role he never sought, trained for, or applied to.
Prayer
The power of Prayer — Woman from church who gave $117,000 stood in the gap for John.
A woman from John's church had heard his baptism testimony and felt God leading her to give him money — though she didn't know he needed any. She persisted even after he dismissed her. She had been praying for God to test her love for him versus money, and asked to be involved in something big. She wrote a $117,000 check — the exact amount needed for trial — without knowing the figure. A friend named Michael also intervened at a critical moment, telling John that God doesn't have to tell you anything before blessing you — you just have to humble yourself and accept it.
John closes their testimony with a prayer for you.
Whatever you carry right now, you can bring it to Him. You don’t need the right words.
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10:13
If you don’t know how → Just ask him
Pray for anyone facing a situation where God's promise and their circumstances are completely at odds — that they would hold the word over the evidence, and not mistake the enemy's pressure for God's redirection.
Is today your day?
Absolutely, He will.
You don't have to figure everything out right now.
You don't need to have all the answers.
If something stirred in your heart while you were watching or reading — that's not nothing.
That is the Holy Spirit gently knocking on the door of your heart.
Stay right here. There's no rush. The Spirit doesn't pressure or hurry.
Watch another video. Read a little more. Take your time.
When you're ready — even if “ready” just means a little curious — Jesus is ready to meet you.
You don't have to clean up your life first.
You don't have to pass any test.
You only need to say a simple “yes” to Him.
He will take care of the rest.
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
