Gloria
“I tried to commit suicide twice before I was 15, raised by a mother who beat me bloody — and then one night watching Billy Graham on TV, I hit the screen crying and felt the weight of sin literally lift off me.”

Before you watch
This testimony contains graphic descriptions of childhood physical abuse, two suicide attempts before age 15, and a marriage destroyed by alcoholism and infidelity. What makes it worth watching is that Gloria is 80 years old and has 56 years of evidence that God kept every promise he made to her — including the oranges.
What this story teaches
People who were never told they were loved as children often spend their lives trying to earn it from everyone else — but Gloria's story shows that the love they were looking for was already present in the room during the worst moments, waiting to be named.
How God moved
In Gloria's story, God shows up not as a distant deity but as a Father who was physically present in every beating she endured as a child — and who waited until she was ready to tell her so. He provides with absurd specificity: the right-sized jeans, the oranges, the full gas tank. He is not impressed by her lack of education or her messy start. He simply keeps showing up.
The lie Gloria carried
The prettiest thing about you is your hair — I was so plain I couldn't even look at myself in the mirror.
What Jesus showed her
She had been told her whole childhood she was plain, ugly, and only kept for the child support money — she couldn't look at herself in the mirror and tried to end her life twice before 15. Jesus named every beating she had endured and broke the lie that she had been alone and unwanted in it.
Jesus is my next heartbeat. He's the lover of my soul, my savior, my rescuer, my best friend. He's the love of my life. He said he would be a husband to the husbandless.
Go Deeper
I think the greatest thing that I could ever say is develop a relationship by reading his word. His word is him. His will is his word. Read the word and pray. Get to know him. Spend time with him. Spend time communicating with him, and get to the place where you can hear him communicate back to you. I think keeping that intimacy — intimacy, come into me and see. Come into him and see. Get to know what he's like. Get to know his character. He's faithful. And you're not perfect. He doesn't expect you to be perfect. He's the perfect one. You're going to make mistakes. You're going to stumble. You're going to blow it. He just picks us up, dusts our britches off, and we get going. But you have to stay in communication with him. You have to stay close to him. The most important thing is your relationship with him. Get to know him. Fall in love with him. Don't delay. Ask him into your heart and then pray. You will grow in stages. He knows how to raise the youngans. And every situation you fall into, he already knew it was coming. He will allow that situation so that you see him in a new light that you've never seen him before. So you just have to stay close. Just talk to him. Stay close to him. Get as close as you can to him.

What you can take from this
This week, find one promise God has made in scripture and write it down somewhere you will see it daily — then watch over the next months whether he keeps it in your specific circumstances, the way he kept the promise about the oranges.
Her mother told her repeatedly: 'You're so plain. The prettiest thing about you is your hair.' She was told she was ugly, treated like an object, and made to feel she was only kept because her child support paid the rent. She threw a brush at the mirror because she hated looking at herself.
Moved through 16 states by age 14, never in one place long enough to develop friendships, always burdened with chores that prevented socialising. 'There was never a time where I had a root system.' Withdrew deeply inward from the abuse.
Alcoholism ran through Ed's family — 'it was already in the generation of the men in his family. They all drank.' Ed came home from Vietnam already drinking more, and the pattern deepened until it destroyed the marriage.
Within her first month of salvation, Gloria saw the angel of light come very close. She describes seeing the manifestation of demons and the war in the heavenlies in her home. Her children asked why they had to go through things other church kids didn't.
Gloria tried to commit suicide twice before age 15, praying 'God, I don't care which one you take. Take one of us. I just want the pain to stop.' The accumulated shame of being told she was plain, unwanted, and a burden drove her to self-destruction.
I was hitting the TV screen and crying and I said, 'Jesus, I'm here. I'm here. Don't pass me by. I'm here.'
He made Ed drive me to all of his brothers and sisters' houses. I said, 'I need to ask for forgiveness.' If I did anything or said anything, I'm supposed to ask forgiveness.
I would visit a church and if they gave me that up and down look, I thought, well, this don't feel right. Then I would try another church. This one church, when I walked in, the love of God about knocked me down.
I got a Bible and I mean I devoured. I was so hungry and the Holy Spirit is our teacher.
You pulled the root of bitterness out of me and I felt like I was having a heart attack. I physically felt you pull the root out.
My mother is in heaven now. Things were made right. She began to go to church. She began to serve the Lord. So she's safe in heaven. My ex-husband — he made it right. He's in heaven.
Psalms 37:25
God's promise to Gloria: 'I've never seen the righteous forsaken or their seed begging bread' — fulfilled across her single-mother years.
Isaiah 46:4
Gloria quotes this directly: 'Even in your old age and gray hairs, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you.'
Luke 7:47
Gloria quotes: 'To him who is forgiven little loves little; to the one forgiven much, loves much' — explaining why she loves Jesus so deeply.
Acts 16:31
Gloria quotes: 'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and your household' — as her closing invitation.
John 10:27
Gloria references: 'My sheep, they will hear my voice. They will know me' — in context of encouraging others to recognise God's voice.
Jeremiah 31:3
God's words to Gloria during the hugging encounter: 'I love you with an everlasting love' — direct echo of this verse.
Proverbs 24:16
Gloria references: 'Seven times the righteous man falls' — used to encourage new believers that stumbling does not disqualify them.
Deuteronomy 33:25
Gloria references: 'As your day, so shall your strength be' — God's promise of daily sufficient strength at age 80.
Like Hagar, Gloria was cast out alone with children, no resources, and God met her supernaturally with provision — including the specific detail she asked for.
Gloria never had a father's love; God physically embraced her and declared his love — the father running to meet the returning child, but Gloria was the child who never left.
Gloria's Christmas provision — strangers arriving with exact gifts, right-sized clothes, and the specific oranges she had asked God for — mirrors Elijah's ravens.
Gloria refused to change her surname under beatings; God later called her by name personally — 'Gloria, let him call you by name' — restoring her identity.
Gloria's Christian Walk
Unloved, rootless child raised in abuse and abandonment, married at 16 and left alone with six children → daughter of a heavenly Father who hugged her, provided miracles, and never once failed her across 56 years.
Raised six children alone with no child support and God provided food, housing, a full gas tank, and healing for sick children. All six children grew up without ever begging for bread. She worked her way up to store manager. She was ordained. She led her estranged father to the Lord before he died of brain cancer. Both her abusive mother and ex-husband came to faith and died in peace.
My spiritual birthday means more to me than my natural birthday. I was born again, girl. My life was now changed.
The load of sin — 'I felt the load of sin literally come off of me that night.'
The weight of my sin literally came off me that night. I felt the load of sin literally come off of me. He pulled the root of bitterness out of me and I felt like I was having a heart attack — I physically felt him pull the root out. He healed me of so much.
After conversion, Gloria's husband's alcoholism deepened, he had repeated affairs, and eventually she divorced him with six children and no child support. She faced eviction, near-poverty, doors slammed in her face for having six kids, and Christmas with $5 to her name — all while raising her children alone.
Teacher, preacher, prophet, intercessor, and armor bearer across multiple churches for 56 years. Currently launching an eighth prayer ministry focused on training spiritual warfare warriors at her local church, raising up an end-times prayer army.
Prayer
The power of Prayer — Billy Graham via television broadcast stood in the gap for Gloria.
Billy Graham preached on television one night while Gloria's husband was out drinking. She sat on the floor in front of the screen. She cannot recall what he preached, but when the choir sang 'Just As I Am' at the close, she hit the screen crying and surrendered to Jesus. A single broadcast was the decisive human instrument of her conversion.
Gloria closes their testimony with a prayer for you.
Whatever you carry right now, you can bring it to Him. You don’t need the right words.
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10:13
If you don’t know how → Just ask him
Pray for anyone who grew up being told they were plain, ugly, or unwanted — that God would meet them the way he met Gloria, physically and personally, and name every moment he was present when they thought they were alone.
Is today your day?
Absolutely, He will.
You don't have to figure everything out right now.
You don't need to have all the answers.
If something stirred in your heart while you were watching or reading — that's not nothing.
That is the Holy Spirit gently knocking on the door of your heart.
Stay right here. There's no rush. The Spirit doesn't pressure or hurry.
Watch another video. Read a little more. Take your time.
When you're ready — even if “ready” just means a little curious — Jesus is ready to meet you.
You don't have to clean up your life first.
You don't have to pass any test.
You only need to say a simple “yes” to Him.
He will take care of the rest.
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
