Richard
“I grew up in church, wrestled with same-sex attraction my whole life, watched porn every day, and came out the other side — not because I fixed myself, but because Jesus said 'just come to me.'”

Before you watch
This testimony goes into sustained detail about same-sex attraction, pornography addiction, and a decade-long struggle between faith and the LGBTQ lifestyle — it is heavy but never graphic. What makes it worth watching is Richard's honesty about the years of trying to make the gay Christian compromise work, and the specific moment God simply said 'just come to me' instead of answering the theology question.
What this story teaches
People don't leave God because they stop believing He exists — they leave because they can't see a way out of what they're in. Richard believed the Bible was true and still spent a decade in bondage because no one showed him that God could actually help him, not just judge him.
How God moved
God did not wait for Richard to resolve his sexuality before pursuing him — He simply said 'just come to me' and let the relationship do what theology couldn't. He met Richard in the middle of the mess, not after it was cleaned up. And when Richard finally came, God gave him back everything he had surrendered — his dance, his identity, his sense of family — and made it holy.
The lie Richard carried
I've already like have sex out of marriage, I've been in sexual perversion — I'm not in a good place with the Lord. No one's going to love me. I'll never be married. I'm too far gone.
What Jesus showed him
Richard carried a lifelong wound of abandonment and rejection — his father left before he was born, his brother left for the Navy, men consistently disappeared, and he was bullied for being different. He believed no one would ever want him or stay, and that he was too far gone for God to reach.
That's my dad. That is my dad. The father and the parents that I wanted, the family that I wanted, is in Jesus. He's my father, my friend, my brother — he's my first love.
Go Deeper
The truth is sin is death and Jesus is life. Any temptation, any struggle has no hold over Jesus. The blood of Jesus speaks and he's calling us to repent. He's calling us to be holy, to be separated, to be pure as he is holy through Jesus Christ. And as he did it for me, he will do it for you. Come out from among them and have life. It is possible. Nothing is impossible with the Lord. Freedom is possible with Jesus Christ. Do not listen to the lie that the Lord does not love you. Do not listen to the lie that the Lord is not for you, for he gave up his son. His son gave up his breath to be with you. The Lord loves you and he sees you and he delights in you and he loves you as you are in your sin and he is extending his hand to say live.
People don't leave God because they stop believing He exists — they leave because they can't see a way out of what they're in. Richard believed the Bible was true and still spent a decade in bondage because no one showed him that God could actually help him, not just judge him.
What you can take from this
If you have been managing a secret struggle alone because you believe you're too far gone or no one can help, find one person this week — a therapist, a sponsor, a pastor — and say it out loud for the first time.
I stumbled upon pornography around age 10 or 11. I knew it was wrong. I even figured out how to clear my history. And then I would just find my way going back to it. That was really the open door for the enemy to come in. By college I was watching porn every day, gratifying myself every day, watching it at work.
He started talking to me about being a gay Christian and how that was possible. I even got this book called God and the Gay Christian. I came to a crossroad where I was thinking that I could be gay and also Christian. I was going to church and I was dating.
There was so much shame and condemnation. It was a cycle of shame and condemnation and guilt this whole time. I felt like I had too much blood in my ledger. I was like I've already had sex out of marriage, I've been in sexual perversion, I've been watching pornography — sin sin sin sin.
I was rejected by my father. I had men who kept leaving in my life. I was constantly abandoned or rejected. And now the person who I thought I could be with has also rejected me. Rejection is an open door for the enemy to use. This was another stake in my heart, another nail in my heart.
He's casting out the spirit of suicide and I'm like — suicide? I had no idea that there was these suicidal ideations and the spirit of death was upon me. I've always been so independent and hardworking that I never really wanted to say that I was really depressed, but I was. And the spirit was upon me.
I always kind of felt a little different. I kept getting called gay and bullied about that. I felt like I wasn't the person that I should be. The enemy kind of perverted this wanting to be validated and to have male friendships. I was being educated demonically.
My church didn't really invite the Holy Spirit in as much. There were these performances — we're singing, we're doing these productions, we're dancing, but there was no intimacy with the Holy Spirit to really guide me into truth. No conversations about how to deny my flesh, how to crucify my flesh, how to resist temptation.
You could feel the warfare there in the new corporate workspace. I was working at the front desk and people would come around me — they didn't want to cuss. There was a spiritual atmosphere of resistance to the gospel in that environment.
God, if you can heal me, you can have me. If you heal me from this addiction, if you heal me where I'm not wrestling with being gay, if you do this work in me, I give you my life. You can have the rest of my life.
I even got baptized in 2022. So after I split up with this guy, after I decided I'm fully going in with church, I got baptized. It was May of 2022.
My church had a small group which was a recovery group. And in this recovery group there was different people struggling with different types of addictions. But this is where I learned about God and learned about the Lord.
I'm reading the Bible. I get a blanket and I'm just opening the Bible and I'm reading it. I never did that before. I couldn't put down the Bible. I really just want to read the Bible.
One of my pastors, Pastor Evan, comes and he starts praying over me and there's deliverance that's happening and he's casting out the spirit of suicide and the spirit of death was upon me.
I deleted all the apps. I stopped hanging out with certain groups of people. I stopped doing the dance crews. I stopped dressing a certain way. I started throwing out clothes. I threw out images that I had posters. I threw out so much self-help books. Threw stuff away. Had a whole trash can burn stuff.
The Lord delivered me in my dreams. I had a full encounter with the Lord — I wake up in the middle of the night and my whole body's on fire and I feel like this ball of fire in my stomach.
I just simply shared just a praise report from just addiction and just me realizing that I don't want to be gay. The Lord is showing me his heart and his design for sexuality and it's for a man to be with a woman. And I love God. I know that he's real.

The deliverance dream — decayed grass blossoming into flowers after darkness is removed — directly mirrors the valley of dry bones coming to life.
Richard explicitly identifies with the woman at the well — not yet complete but immediately beginning to evangelize after encountering Jesus.
Richard prayed for scales to fall from viewers' eyes referencing Paul; his own deliverance dream and sudden freedom from addiction mirrors Paul's sudden transformation.
Fired for his faith during Pride Month, Richard was escorted out but unharmed — a modern lions' den where faithfulness cost him his job but God provided.
Richard's Christian Walk
Fatherless young man seeking belonging through same-sex relationships and pornography, convinced he was too far gone → son of God, identity rooted in the Father, walking in freedom and calling others out of the LGBTQ lifestyle.
Freed from daily pornography addiction after years of compulsive use — went from watching porn every day to months of freedom. Insomnia and depression lifted after deliverance dream. Deleted dating apps, left LGBTQ dance crews, discarded feminine clothing and self-help books. Church community rallied financially when he was fired, preventing eviction. Now walking in consistent sobriety from pornography.
Ever since then I felt so different. I didn't have problems sleeping. I wasn't heavy and depressed and anxious.
pornography addiction — 'I realized it had been like two weeks and I hadn't watched porn, which was the longest that I ever had gone.' The desire and compulsion were removed gradually through Bible reading, then confirmed as gone.
Pornography addiction — watching porn every day for over a decade. Same-sex attraction and the homosexual lifestyle. The spirit of suicide and the spirit of death. Insomnia, depression, and anxiety. The heaviness that was around me 24/7. The shame and condemnation cycle.
Lost his highest-paying corporate job in June 2024 after his testimony videos went viral — fired during Pride Month for his social media content about leaving the LGBTQ lifestyle. Was behind on rent, facing eviction, and in debt at the time of termination.
I never really knew that he could help me — I knew it was wrong but I never really asked him.
Sharing testimony on TikTok and Instagram (two viral videos); working with Redemption Ministries nonprofit; building a consecrated Christian arts center focused on dance; speaking openly about freedom from homosexuality and pornography addiction.
Prayer
The power of Prayer — Christian therapist and recovery sponsor stood in the gap for Richard.
A Christian therapist connected through Richard's leadership community recognized his pornography addiction and directed him to a church-based recovery group. His sponsor Aaron — who had his own freedom from pornography — walked alongside Richard consistently, taking calls when he slipped, praying with him, and staying present through the long process of recovery. Members of his church who had left the homosexual lifestyle (Anthony, Sarah, Azie) became living proof that freedom was possible, which was the human evidence Richard needed to keep going.
Richard closes their testimony with a prayer for you.
Whatever you carry right now, you can bring it to Him. You don’t need the right words.
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10:13
If you don’t know how → Just ask him
Pray for every person who grew up in church, knows the Bible is true, and is still trapped in sexual sin or same-sex attraction because they've never seen anyone actually get free. Ask God to put a living testimony in front of them this week.
Is today your day?
Absolutely, He will.
You don't have to figure everything out right now.
You don't need to have all the answers.
If something stirred in your heart while you were watching or reading — that's not nothing.
That is the Holy Spirit gently knocking on the door of your heart.
Stay right here. There's no rush. The Spirit doesn't pressure or hurry.
Watch another video. Read a little more. Take your time.
When you're ready — even if “ready” just means a little curious — Jesus is ready to meet you.
You don't have to clean up your life first.
You don't have to pass any test.
You only need to say a simple “yes” to Him.
He will take care of the rest.
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
