Talia
“I was raised in a Jehovah's Witness cult, rejected it, fell into New Age, and then prayed one desperate prayer in a shower — and God showed up so powerfully I thought I had died.”

Before you watch
This testimony requires patience — Talia spends significant time explaining Jehovah's Witness doctrine and her gradual awakening — but the payoff is a Holy Spirit encounter of rare vividness, and a conversion confirmed by a stranger who showed up as the direct answer to a prayer prayed the night before. The intellectual journey makes the supernatural arrival all the more striking.
What this story teaches
People raised in high-control religious systems are not irrational — they are often the most spiritually hungry people in the room. When that hunger is finally directed at God himself rather than at an organisation, God meets it with extraordinary precision.
How God moved
God heard one desperate, sincere prayer from a woman who had been lied to her whole life about who he was — and he showed up so powerfully she thought she had died. He didn't wait for her to have the right theology. He answered the honest question of someone who just wanted to know the truth. He is the God who hears, and he answers specifically.
What Jesus showed her
She had spent her whole life inside a system that told her God could be fully explained, boxed, and administered by eight men in New York — and that seeking him directly was not available to ordinary believers. The revelation was that she could simply ask God who he was, and he would answer.
Jesus is my Lord and my King and my God, my salvation. He's just the God who heard me.
Go Deeper
My last words would be that this life is but a vapor. It's here today and gone tomorrow. And all that we really have is eternity. And you're going to spend eternity somewhere. And that God came to live for you, to die for you, to die for your sins so that you can be together in eternity with him forever. And there's nothing more important than that. No matter what you're going through, no matter what you've been through, none of us are going to get to heaven and wish our lives were easier down here. I pray that anybody who feels like something isn't quite right, like they can't defend their faith if they had to — I pray that any of those people would seek and that they would find Christ.

What you can take from this
If you have been told your whole life that God can only be reached through a system, a leader, or a set of rules — this week, try speaking to him directly. Just ask him who he is. Talia's testimony is that he answers that question.
The Jehovah's Witness organisation operated through the BITE model — behaviour, information, thought, and emotion control — presenting itself as the one true religion and God's only organisation, while systematically preventing members from reading the Bible independently or seeking God directly.
New age spirituality — manifesting and spiritual practices — gave Talia enough apparent spiritual response to delay genuine seeking of God after leaving the JW organisation.
The Armageddon fear kept people mentally captive even after they physically left the organisation. Talia describes sitting alone in her car on Thanksgiving and thinking the JW prediction was coming true — that she was alone and miserable — nearly driving her back.
At 16–17, after taking an edible, Talia experienced her spirit lifting out of her body and two entities arguing for her soul to go to hell — all night. This happened despite her having no belief in hell whatsoever as a JW.
During her planned pregnancy, spiritual voices fought over whether Talia would abort her daughter — for weeks, every time she was alone. She described literally hearing spiritual voices in her head, one urging abortion, one urging her to keep the child. Once she made her decision, the evil voices left and never returned.
The JW structure by design isolated members from all 'worldly' relationships — school acquaintances were not friends, outside associations were forbidden. When Talia left, she had no relational infrastructure and found herself completely alone — eating Thanksgiving dinner in her car at midnight.
Jehovah, if you're real, please tell me and make it clear so I can worship you with all of my life. I just want to know if you're real. I just want to know if you're true. I just want to know if it's okay to believe you're Jesus. I will give you my whole life and I'll worship you my whole life if you answer this one prayer for me.
I think I just did that, but I need you to tell me — is Jesus God? And he said, 'Yeah, Jesus is God.' And I just said, 'Of course he's God.'
That first year after I got saved I could not put my Bible down. I read my Bible from the moment I got up till I went to bed, probably on average like 5 or 6 hours a day.
God has so richly blessed me with community of believers and that's been one of the most incredible things.
Genesis 5:24
Talia read about Enoch being taken by God as a child — a 'pebble in her shoe' that challenged the JW picture of a boxed, explainable God.
Revelation 7
JW doctrine of 144,000 spirit-anointed going to heaven — a doctrine Talia found strange and troubling as a child.
Revelation 14
Second JW proof-text for the 144,000 doctrine.
Matthew 24
JW governing body uses this passage to claim the title 'faithful and discreet slave' — a key control mechanism Talia came to see as cultic.
John 8:24
'Unless you believe I am he, you will die in your sins' — the verse Talia could not get off her mind, which drove her to seek God about Jesus's identity.
Exodus 3:14
God reveals himself as 'I AM' to Moses — Talia connected this to Jesus's 'I am he' in John 8, which began to break down her JW Christology.
Acts 2
Disciples appearing drunk at Pentecost confirmed Talia's own Holy Spirit encounter — the moment she fully understood she was saved.
Ephesians 2:8–9
Talia spontaneously said 'I'm saved by grace through faith, not of anything I've done' before reading the Bible — later found she had quoted this scripture exactly.
Romans 8:15–16
Spirit crying out 'Abba Father' and bearing witness you are a child of God — Talia said she had experienced this before reading it.
Galatians 4:6
Adopted as sons and daughters — resonated with Talia's experience of her spirit bearing witness she was a child of God.
Matthew 19:29
Whoever forsakes family for Christ's name will receive a hundredfold — Talia cited this regarding losing her JW family and gaining a community of believers.
Talia explicitly compared her trail encounter to Moses at the burning bush — holy ground, sovereign God acting outside any box, and the 'I AM' revelation she had been wrestling with.
Talia's experience of feeling drunk from the Spirit was directly confirmed when she read Acts 2 — the disciples also appeared drunk at Pentecost.
Talia left the only community she knew, hit isolation and misery, and returned — not to the organisation but to the Father himself.
Talia felt her old spirit die and new spirit come alive at conversion — later found this described exactly in Romans 6 without having read it.
Talia's Christian Walk
Lifelong Jehovah's Witness who believed in a boxed, limited God and a man-made organization → born-again Christian who encountered the sovereign, living God personally and was made a new person.
Desires changed overnight — lost interest in things she previously pursued without question. Devoured the Bible 5–6 hours a day. Her husband later came to Christ, partly through witnessing her transformation. Found a rich community of believers that replaced the family she lost. The evil spiritual voices that tormented her over the abortion decision left and never returned.
That person that pulled into this parking lot's dead. She died with Christ. I'm different now. I'm a new person.
The spiritual voices fighting over whether she would abort her daughter — 'once I put my foot in the sand and said no, they just like left' and never returned.
The mind control of the Jehovah's Witness organisation. The new age spirituality. The spiritual voices fighting over whether she would have an abortion — 'once I put my foot in the sand and said no, they just like left.' The dead spirit that was made alive: 'something in me has been dead and now it's alive.'
Her family — all Jehovah's Witnesses — stopped treating her as a full family member after she openly proclaimed Christianity. No shared dinners, no real family relationship, only minimal contact around grandchildren. Her husband was initially atheist and did not understand her conversion experience.
I feel like I'm saved by grace through faith, and it's not of anything I've done.

Prayer
The power of Prayer — A 14-year-old boy who knocked on her car window stood in the gap for Talia.
On his way to tennis practice, having been saved only four months earlier without a religious upbringing, he knocked on her car window and asked if he could interview her. He asked if she had lied, stolen, and made Jesus her Lord and Saviour. When she asked him directly whether Jesus was God, he said yes — the single answer she had been desperately seeking. Talia had prayed the night before for God to send her a child who wasn't raised in a religion, and this boy was the exact answer.
Talia closes their testimony with a prayer for you.
Whatever you carry right now, you can bring it to Him. You don’t need the right words.
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10:13
If you don’t know how → Just ask him
Pray for anyone still mentally trapped inside a high-control religion — Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, or any system that stands between a person and direct access to God — that the same sovereign Spirit who rolled into Talia's car would find them wherever they are.
Is today your day?
Absolutely, He will.
You don't have to figure everything out right now.
You don't need to have all the answers.
If something stirred in your heart while you were watching or reading — that's not nothing.
That is the Holy Spirit gently knocking on the door of your heart.
Stay right here. There's no rush. The Spirit doesn't pressure or hurry.
Watch another video. Read a little more. Take your time.
When you're ready — even if “ready” just means a little curious — Jesus is ready to meet you.
You don't have to clean up your life first.
You don't have to pass any test.
You only need to say a simple “yes” to Him.
He will take care of the rest.
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

I was a very miserable, angry person. My whole life was a trauma drama. I was into the New Age for 15 years, tried everything — Sufism, Buddhism, feminism, all of it — and none of it led me to truth or life. I had so much abuse, anger, hatred, and condemnation inside me.
