The lie Steph carried

I'm the only one who's going to get me through this — no one loves me, no one stood by me, and I have to fix myself.

What Jesus showed her

She had spent her entire life as an orphan — no father, a mother who chose men over her, blacklisted by family, unable to find belonging anywhere. The core wound was that she was unwanted and had to survive entirely alone. Jesus named her 'My daughter' and the orphan identity broke.

You just have to have an honest talk for the truth. My life with Jesus is so fulfilling now. I'm really excited for what he has in store for me, and I'm just really happy that he's part of my life every day. He didn't just rock up and was like, read my book, I see you when you die. He's a part of my day-to-day life, and I see moves of God all the time, and this is something that he wants people to experience, and it is possible.

What you can take from this

If you have been surviving on your own for so long that asking for help feels impossible, try one honest conversation this week — with God, with a counsellor, or with one safe person — and notice what happens when you stop pretending you have it under control.

Progressive entrapment

From age 14, opioids given during surgery created an addiction that escalated over a decade — from opioids to benzos to daily alcohol. Each substance was framed as a helper and a hug. She believed she could control it while it progressively destroyed her health, relationships, and kidneys.

Counterfeit spirituality

New Age was perfect because it answered questions about suffering but there was no checking my behavior. Everything had an excuse. I didn't know that new age was basically the same thing as Satan but with pretty packaging. It fed into the idea of worshippers of self.

Counterfeit intimacy

A five-year relationship with a man she described as a match made in hell — they shared each other's darkness, became codependent, and she stayed after he raped her because she feared being alone. He believed she was his savior; she needed him to need her. Both were really looking for Jesus.

Generational demon

My one of my cousins and I used to joke that our family was cursed, and it wasn't until I came to Jesus that I actually saw the truth to that statement. The family was full of darkness, chaos, abuse, drugs — generational patterns she nearly replicated.

Spirit of death

I was under this like demonic sort of trance and these things were saying to me just leave, just be with the universe, it's okay. I really felt like I just wanted to be with God now. I'd had enough. There was also this like demonic whispers — just do it, just do it. It was passive suicidalness.

Familiar spirit

I would do tarot readings and things would come to be. I had a real spiritual sensitivity that the enemy exploited through New Age. I was specifically targeted during a psychic reading — the psychic zeroed in on me, not my friend, trying to pull me back with readings about past loved ones.

Unnamed entity

As I was starting to go to church more and more it was getting more and more intense. I was getting sleep paralysis, seeing light orbs shining out of my window. I was filled with so much fear. I remember one day getting myself really worked up — it was so intense I ran to a cathedral.

Core lie

No one loves me. No one stood by me. I'm the only one who's going to get me through this. I can fix myself. This belief drove her to refuse help from doctors, friends, and AA for years, and kept her isolated even when people tried to reach her.

I can't fix myself. I've tried it all my life. I'm exhausted. Like I genuinely think I need help. I was starting to really break past that pride and really accept that I couldn't do it by my own.

Do you want to like renounce or repent of witchcraft? And I was like, Absolutely. I'm done with it. Yes.

She said the words — accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior — and out of nowhere it was like something had shot my heart like with an arrow. An intense feeling of love.

There was a period of time where I was starting to throw out stuff and I was like I don't want anything to do with this. This is creepy as heck.

God actually led me to Dan's church and that's when I experienced deliverance one-on-one with someone for the first time. That's when I understood the authority of someone who has the Holy Spirit.

He's led me through a period of forgiveness for my fellow Christian brothers and sisters and with my mom — my mom was my biggest enemy — and recently I've been able to forgive her through Jesus.

Steph spent years in chaos, addiction, and false spirituality before returning to the Father who welcomed her home with love, not condemnation.

Steph received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with physical manifestations and spoke in tongues, directly mirroring the Acts 2 experience she had just read.

Like Paul, Steph was living in spiritual opposition when Jesus appeared to her in a blinding light encounter that permanently redirected her life.

Steph described feeling dead inside for years; God brought her back to life and she described the moment of salvation as feeling alive for the first time.

Steph's Christian Walk

Forgave her mother — someone she had said could die alone — and felt genuine supernatural love flood her heart for the first time since childhood. Left a five-year abusive relationship. Stopped using drugs and alcohol. Received deliverance from demonic bondage. Reconnected with a sense of family and belonging through the church community.

It was like a lifetime of searching for home and being an orphan just left. I really felt like someone had me.

Prayer

The power of Prayer — Old woman at church stood in the gap for Steph.

An old woman Steph met randomly at her first church service listened to her talk about leaving New Age and witchcraft, then sat with her after the service and connected her with a youth pastor who led her through a prayer of renunciation of witchcraft and acceptance of Jesus. She later told Steph 'I think you're ready' and directed her to read Acts 2, then laid hands on her for the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
