The lie Alene carried

I only knew acceptance and thought that was love — I never believed I could just be loved as I was.

What Jesus showed her

She had carried her whole life the belief that acceptance was love — that she had to be acceptable, to win, to be self-sufficient — and had never known she was simply seen and wanted. The wound was pride covering a great amount of pain, and a heart so calloused she had never learned to repent.

Core lie

I grew up with this idea that Christ makes you a better version of you, not this understanding that he actually makes us a new person. I didn't grow up with a very humble perspective. We settled for acceptance and thought that was love.

Generational demon

In my natal chart it said I would be divorced multiple times. That's a curse. I saw it and thought 'Oh no, not me.' But a part of me worried about it, so I came into agreement with it. When my marriage looked like it was falling apart, I thought 'Oh, this is my destiny. I have to accept it.'

Progressive entrapment

I end up getting into witchcraft. At first I got into Santeria. Things are getting worse and worse and falling apart. By this point I'm doing things I never thought I would do like animal sacrifices. In New Age, the more you do, the more you feel like you need to do. It was just chaos. You're always trying to chase some kind of experience and they're fleeting.

Unnamed entity

Every attempt for the enemy to destroy my identity, even what I already knew of it was full-fledged. I left those three years so broken, so hopeless, so devastated. I remember sitting at one point in my bedroom thinking the walls were caving in on me and at some point I wasn't going to be able to breathe anymore. It was suffocating.

Identity theft

Pretty early on in my life, lies started coming in from the enemy. Looking back now I can see them. A fear of sharing my faith was instilled. I needed to be acceptable and accept people versus truly love them. My sensitivity and not knowing how to express myself led to a lot of inner wounds that I tried to heal with sin.

I ran. I ran from calling. You can have my whole life, have it all back. I had this understanding that I wasn't giving him back my life because it had always been his life. What I was doing was accepting the fact that my life was truly his.

I went through my whole house, threw away everything. Everything I could think of, everything I could see that he would show me, I would throw it away. Like crystals, stuff like that.

I told him, okay, so I don't like Christians. I don't agree with them. I don't think like them and I would not even begin to know how to. So you're going to have to change me if you want me to be a cringey Christian. You're going to have to fix me, I guess.

I went through six months of deliverance just in worship. No one prayed for me because at that time I couldn't really find Christians that really even still had trouble finding ministry. But I remember one thing I could do was I could worship the Lord and I would just worship and I would feel things lifting off me, feeling things being realigned in my heart.

No longer living in anxiety and depression — previously couldn't get out of bed, would come home from work and just sleep or lay there watching TV. Married a faithful, steadfast husband she describes as a gift from God, breaking the curse of repeated divorce she had come into agreement with. Six months of deliverance through worship. Freedom from pride and the compulsion to win everything.

I woke up the next morning and thought, I haven't felt this way since I was 19 years old.

Prayer

The power of Prayer — Stranger at a bar who shared the gospel stood in the gap for Alene.

A man she had never met appeared at the same bar on her birthday, began talking to her about Jesus, dreams, visions, and spiritual encounters — language she had never heard a Christian use. She was half intrigued and half annoyed. He got her number and followed up by sending her scriptures and worship videos, including a 20-minute song called Father Song that God had specifically told him to send her. That song was the vehicle through which God spoke to her and brought her home.
