Welcome, my new brother or sister in Christ

What you just did matters — God heard you.

He doesn’t need fancy words just your honesty.

We rejoice with Heaven and the angels.

We pray that the Lord continues to draw you ever closer, that He deepens your faith, and that He reveals to you your identity in Him.

You are now forgiven, adopted into God’s family, and the Holy Spirit lives in you.

You said yes. Maybe out loud, maybe in your chest, maybe in a way you couldn’t have put into words. You may or may not feel an immediate difference. Some people do — the room shifts, a weight lifts, they cry without warning. Some wake up the next morning completely delivered from something in their lives. Many don’t. They go to bed the same person and wake up the same person and wonder if anything actually happened. If that’s you, you haven’t done anything wrong. The change He begins isn’t always immediate. It can also be a slow turning — sometimes weeks, sometimes years before you look back and realise you’ve been moving in a different direction, or that your prayers have been answered. Each person’s walk with the Lord is different, as many of the testimonies bear witness in their own unique story. Whichever one you are, as with them, the main thing is to keep walking with Him.

What comes next isn’t a checklist.

It’s a way of being with someone who is now with you — a few ideas and practices for knowing Him and walking with Him, day by day. Ask the Lord to guide you in the timing and shape of each one in your life.

Personal Relationship — Devotion

As with any loving relationship, this grows through time, honesty, and closeness. Jesus already loves you completely — you don’t have to earn His affection.

Just draw near to Him.

Build small, sustainable habits that make following Jesus easier over time:

• Regular quiet time with the Lord
• Reading time
• Praying time
• Worship time

Waking up an hour early to spend time with the Lord, evening worship, talking to Him while stuck in traffic, while walking your dog or sitting at your desk. He will meet you where you are. (See Prayer on the Resources page for practical guidance. Click here.)

Some also set aside food, or something else they lean on, for a time — not to earn anything, but to make more room for Him. (See Fasting on the Resources page for practical guidance. Click here.)

Prayer — Talk to Him

Prayer isn’t a performance and it doesn’t require special words. The conversation you started when you said yes is now the conversation of your life. Speak honestly — about anything, in any words. He hears you. There will be silence sometimes. The silence is not absence. It’s the room you have to keep speaking into.

As your relationship with The Lord grows prayer becomes easier — Talk to Him.

The Bible — Read His Word

Find a Bible — any translation, any format. If you’ve never read it before, start with the Gospel of John. It’s the one most often recommended for someone meeting Him for the first time. Read slowly. You don’t have to understand every verse. You’re not taking a test — you’re meeting a Person who loves you.

Prioritise His word and deepen your faith by immersing yourself in the Bible. This is foundational for discerning the truth — feed on His Word daily, even if it’s just a few verses. Pray before and after reading - ask The Holy Spirit to guide you.

Generosity — Give

What you have isn’t only money — it’s also your time, your attention, and the particular gifts He’s given only you. Give what you can, not what you don’t have. God isn’t asking you to become the one in need.

Your Witness — Share What You Know

You don’t need all the answers. Your own story — what happened to you — is enough to start with.

The Body of Christ — Church

Tell someone. If there’s a Christian in your life — a friend, a family member, a colleague — tell them you prayed. They will know what to do, and you will be glad you told someone. If you don’t know anyone yet, that’s not a barrier; the first two practices don’t need a guide. Keep your eyes open. People show up.

Find a spiritual father or mature trusted believer you can confess struggles to. This brings real support.

Seek biblically-based community. When looking for a church, focus on finding a community that is rooted in scripture and offers discipleship. Specific denomination (Catholic, Baptist, Orthodox, etc.) matters less than whether the church faithfully teaches the Word of God.

Warning signs. Some groups present themselves as Christian but teach beliefs that contradict the core of who Jesus is. If a group denies that Jesus is God in the flesh, replaces His words with another book or leader, or tells you that you can’t trust the Bible without their interpretation — those are warning signs. The Holy Spirit gives discernment as you read scripture for yourself. Test what you hear.

Open your home the way it was opened to you. Start with those who already share your faith — you’ll learn to trust your discernment as you go.

Loving the Unlovable

Look for the person nobody else is looking for — the one sitting alone, the one nobody thinks to call. That’s not a side project of the Christian life. It’s close to the center of it.

Integrity — Let Your Yes Be Yes

Speak plainly. Keep your word. In a world of half-truths and broken promises, this alone will set you apart.

When You Stumble — Repent

We all fall short of God’s glory. Even the greatest saints stumbled in their walk with Jesus.

You may fall back — maybe in a few days, maybe in a few months. The old habits and false refuges may call to you again: the bottle, the screen, the wrong relationship, or the lie.

When that happens, remember this:

The door is never closed. Jesus is not shocked or disappointed by you. He already knew this moment would come, and His arms are still wide open.

The same simple prayer that brought you to Him the first time still works. Just come back. Tell Him the truth. Receive His forgiveness. He is still right here with you — loving you, not condemning you.

There is no limit to His mercy. You can always come home.

There is an old saying worth remembering here: every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future. Where you’ve been is not where you’re bound to stay.

We fight three enemies under Christ’s banner: sin, the world, and the devil. Of these, the hardest is the one inside us — our own flesh and nature — which is why we need a Saviour outside ourselves. The struggle is lifelong, but it is the heart of the Christian life.

As a new believer, understand that salvation is the beginning, not the end of the fight. Growth comes through humility, repentance — admitting you cannot win alone — and actively building structures that support holiness. The Christian life is daily warfare against your old self.

Walk in Faith — Let God Lead You

Walking with Him is not a one-day decision. It is a way of being, lived one step at a time, sometimes in clear daylight and sometimes in shadow. You will not always see far ahead. That is the nature of faith — we walk by faith, not by sight.

Remember He loves you. He loved you before you ever said yes. He loved you enough to give His only begotten Son for you.

This love is the ground you walk on. You don’t have to figure everything out. You don’t have to have it all worked out before tomorrow. You can’t, and you don’t have to. He has a peace for you that is larger than your understanding — a peace that holds you steady when life makes no sense.

Even the birds of the air and the flowers of the field rest in His care.

So let go of what you cannot carry. Lay your burdens at His feet — the questions, the fears, the things you cannot fix on your own. He invites you to.

Trust that He will guide you to the right place where you can grow. Pray for wisdom, discernment, and direction. Test the spirits and be open to where He wants to place you for your spiritual development. Learn to tell two voices apart — the Holy Spirit convicts (specific, leading you toward freedom); the enemy condemns (vague, leading you toward shame). And when fear rises, when doubt creeps in, when the road ahead seems unclear, remember this: once you are one of His, He never lets go.

This is your identity now. Not what you do, not how well you perform, not whether you feel strong on any given day. You are His. He created you for a life only you can live — a life of growing into the person He always saw you would become. He started the work in you the moment you said yes. He will finish it.

A Short Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,
We pray that You deliver Your new child from every bondage and fear.
We ask that You bless them richly and surround them with Your hedge of protection.
Lead them into deep fellowship with You, and help them walk in the beautiful life You created them for.
Fill them with Your peace, joy, and the power of Your Holy Spirit.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
